Vinjete straholjubca - The Bête Noire Vignettes
New Flash Fiction - illustration / book design The Bête Noire Vignettes is a joint project with Slovenian dramaturge and playwright Eva Mahkovic. Short grotesque stories - vignettes are taking place in unusual places and include a series of witty characters. Texts draw from a variety of sources - the Bible, different authors, such as Arthur Schnitzler, William Shakespeare, Truman Capote, Agatha Christie, Umberto Eco, Edith Wharton, RM Rilke, Victorian medical textbooks and pop music. In the Vignettes, all of these elements are given new roles and connotations. Just like the texts, illustrations draw from multiple sources and are inspired by the grotesque – mixture of unusual, comic, ironic, distorted images carrying a deep meaning. Illustrations are made in mixed media, where collage has the strongest expression and most fragments come from old engravings and medieval illuminated manuscripts.
